Anime News - 2011 Fullmetal Alchemist Film's Special Footage Streamed

The Mainichi Shimbun paper's Mantan Web site began streaming 78 seconds of special footage from the Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos (Fullmetal Alchemist: Milos no Sei-Naru Hoshi) movie. The footage revolves around the story of Julia, the film's heroine voiced by Maaya Sakamoto. In particular, the footage includes scenes from the last half of the film.

Kazuya Murata (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion assistant director) is directing off a script by Yuichi Shinbo(Whiteout). Kenichi Konishi (Tokyo Godfathers) is adapting the character designs from Hiromu Arakawa's original manga at the studio BONES (Eureka Seven). The film opened in Japan on July 2.

Anime News - Suite Precure Film in Fall with New Precure Character

The official website for the Precure films relaunched on Friday with a streaming teaser trailer and confirmation that the Eiga Suite Precure: Torimodose! Kokoro ga Tsunagu Kiseki no Melody film will open on October 29.

The website also confirmed that a fourth Precure character will join the current magical girl anime's cast. Retail solicitation forms for upcoming Suite Precure character goods had indicated that a fourth heroine, Cure Muse, would join the main cast.

The flyers for the next Precure film appeared at thePrecure Pretty Store, the first permanent official store dedicated to the Precure anime franchise. The storeopened at the Tokyo Character Street mini-mall on Friday.

Advance tickets for the film will go on sale on Saturday, and the first wave will include a bonus "Suite-Heart Bag."

Anime News - Zero no Tsukaima's Yamaguchi Confirms He Has Cancer

Zero no Tsukaima (The Familiar of Zero) author Noboru Yamaguchi confirmed in a message posted on Media Factory's website on Friday that he has cancer in an advanced stage.

Around February of this year, Yamaguchi underwent a diagnosis at a hospital which discovered his cancer. The cancer was advancing rapidly to the point that surgery was considered futile at the time.

Around May, a gallstone was discovered that was unrelated to his cancer, so Yamaguchi had surgery to remove the gallstone. During the gallstone surgery, the cancerous growth was confirmed to have shrunk in size. Yamaguchi then learned that there was surgery that he could have that might cure the cancer. He plans to have that surgery in early August.

Yamaguchi was in the middle of writing the 21st volume of the Zero no Tsukaima light novel series, but as a result of what has happened, it will be difficult for him to publish the book in August as scheduled. He had previously planned to end the series in two volumes after the 20th volume, but he is now focusing first on a successful surgery and recovery.

Anime News - Maya Miyazaki's Holy Knight Gets Video Anime

Manga creator Maya Miyazaki announced last Friday that a website has opened for the original video anime adaptation of her latest work, Holy Knight.

The "dramatic school (romantic) fantasy" centers around an ordinary orphan named Mizumura who goes to a missionary school in Tokyo. His seemingly normal life changes when a beautiful half-Romanian girl named Lilith suddenly transfers into his school. This timid boy is actually a vampire hunter and the successor of the Romyuarudo lineage.

Holy Knight is the first release from the Cammot animation project.

Anime News - Seitokai Yakuindomo Manga Gets 2 More Anime DVDs

This year's 34th issue of Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine is announcing on Wednesday that Tozen Ujiie's Seitokai Yakuindomo slice-of-life comedy manga will bundle two more original anime DVDs. The next original anime DVD will ship with the limited edition of the sixth manga volume on November 17, followed by another one next April. The magazine also indicates that the seventh manga volume will have "some kind of enjoyable project" planned next July.

The first Seitokai Yakuindomo original anime DVD (pictured right) shipped with the fifth manga volume in April.

Anime News - Your and My Secret Manga to End on August 12

Ai Morinaga will end her Your and My Secret (Boku to Kanojo no XXX) manga in the September issue of Mag Garden's Monthly Comic Avarus magazine, which will ship on August 12. The final installment will have a color opening page, and the manga will be on the cover of the magazine.

The manga inspired Masaki Hamamoto's 2006 live-action film withMai Takahashi and Shun Shioya in the lead roles.

Tokyopop picked up the license for Your and My Secret after A.D. Vision's ADV Manga lets its license expire, although Tokyopop shut down its North American publishing operations in May. Del Rey beganpublishing Morinaga's My Heavenly Hockey Club in North America in 2007, while Media Blasters published The Gorgeous Life of Strawberry Chan and The Super Cool Life of Strawberry Chan from the same creator. Central Park Media's CPM Manga imprint published her Duck Prince manga.

Anime News - Fullmetal Alchemist Manga Wins at Japan Sci-Fi Con

The 50th Japan Science Fiction Convention (Nihon SF Taikai or Japan SF Con/Donbura Con L) announced on Sunday that it will give a Seiun Award in the Comic category to the manga Fullmetal Alchemist. Hiromu Arakawa just ended the manga last year, and an original movie called Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos opened last weekend after the second television anime series ended last year.

Studio Nue illustrator Naoyuki Kato (Starship Troopers, Legend of the Galactic Heroes) won in the Art category again this year. Kato earned the first of his five awards in the Art category in 1979, and he hasnow won the award for four straight years.

"Seiun Shō" literally translates to "nebula awards," but the Japan SF Con's Seiun Awards are more akin to Worldcon's Hugo Awards, in that the attendees of each respective convention vote on the winners. There is another set of awards, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of Japan's Nihon SF Taishō honors, that are the rough Japanese equivalent of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America's Nebula Awards. Like the Hugo Awards, the Seiun Awards honor all forms of speculative fiction — including but not limited to science fiction — and related materials.This year's awards ceremony will be take place at Donbura Con L in Shizuoka on September 3.

Guin Saga, Summer Wars, and Pluto won Seiun Awards last year, while Macross Frontier, Trigun Maximum, and Rocket Girls' Housuke Nojiri received awards in 2009.
